Tracking COVID in Georgia colleges and universities

Georgia COVID-19 Updates

Schools are listed in alphabetical order. Many thanks go to Crystal Earwood who helped me compile this list. If you would like to add your school to the list, know of an update to data available for your school, or feel that something has been reported in error, please email amberschmidtke.phd@gmail.com. This page will be updated periodically as new information becomes available. I might advise bookmarking this page for easy reference.

The New York Times has a college disease tracker that might be useful. It’s unclear how often this will be updated.

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College

College of Coastal Georgia

Updated weekly on Mondays, provides case data for students, faculty and staff.

Columbus State University

No dashboard, per se, but does mention the number of active cases. Updated on Mondays. Does not provide data on testing.

Dalton State College

Provides data on new cases among students and faculty/staff on a weekly basis. Does not provide data on testing.

East Georgia State College

Provides self-reported data for employees and students for each campus. Updates daily. No data provided on testing.

Emory University

Very robust dashboard showing a variety of data. There’s a reason Emory has one of the top public health schools in the nation. Updates daily at noon and provides case data by student versus faculty/staff, percent positive test data, and campus impact. In addition to campus data, they provide data for the surrounding community.

Fort Valley State University

Tableau dashboard updated weekly, breaks cases down by students versus faculty/staff. No data provided on testing.

Georgia College & State University

Data on cases provided daily for students and faculty/staff. No data provided on testing.

Georgia Gwinnett College

Reports cumulative case data daily. Does not divide cases by students versus faculty/staff. Relies on self-reported case data. Does not provide data on testing.

Georgia Highlands College

Provides weekly updates on cases among students and faculty/staff. Relies on self-reported cases. Does not provide data on testing.

Georgia Institute of Technology

Provides daily updates on cases including campus affiliation (student versus faculty/staff), most recent date on campus and information on which communities on campus might be at risk of exposure (called campus impact). Additional information on surveillance testing available here.

Georgia Military College

Does not provide data on cases or testing.

Georgia Southern University

Produces weekly report of cases identified by the university or self-reported and campus affiliation (location and student versus faculty/staff).

Georgia Southwestern State University

Does not provide data on cases or testing.

Georgia State University

Provides weekly summary of cases and testing. Does not provide details on campus affiliation (students versus faculty/staff). Performs onsite testing and also collects self-reported case information.

Gordon State College

The main page will show a link on the upper right that says “COVID-19 Weekly Status Report.” A recent edition is shown below. They provide data on cases but not testing for students as well as faculty and staff.

Kennesaw State University

Does not provide data on testing. Very limited case data is available under the Frequently Asked Questions section. The university does not provide a breakdown of how many cases are identified in students versus faculty/staff.

LaGrange College

Updates weekly, providing data on cases for students, faculty/staff, and whether students reside on campus or commute to class.

Life University

Does not provide case data or testing data.

Mercer University

Has on-site testing, conducting both surveillance testing and testing based on symptoms. Weekly summaries are provided on Fridays and include data on testing (from which percent positive can be calculated), and a breakdown of cases by campus and affiliation.

Middle Georgia State University

Super proud of Middle Georgia State University (I used to teach there) for the data they are providing. They are not a huge school so I’m impressed. They provide both cumulative as well as recent data on cases, subdivided between students versus employees and also by campus. They do not do their own testing, so all of the information we have is through self-reporting and may be an under count.

Oglethorpe University

Does not provide data on cases or testing.

Savannah College of Art and Design

Does not provide data on cases or testing.

Savannah State University

Information on cases is done through news releases and can be found here. They do divide the cases based on campus affiliation (student versus faculty/staff). No information on testing. They indicate that they have a SSU COVID-19 Task Force but there are no details on who serves on that committee or their role.

South Georgia State College

Does not provide data for cases or tests.

University of Georgia

Performing surveillance testing as well as self-reporting through DawgCheck. Provides quite a bit of data including tests performed by collection site, percent positive, campus affiliation (student versus faculty/staff), etc.

University of North Georgia

Updated daily, Monday - Friday. Provides a lot of data regarding cases (both cumulative and recent) by campus and population (students versus faculty/staff).

Reported cases in the past 14 days drop down has the potential to be really useful. It provides a running timeline of who got sick and when (de-identified to student versus faculty or staff). But the campus impact column is very nonspecific and could be improved so community members can know their exposure risk.

University of West Georgia

Reporting case totals weekly by students versus faculty/staff. Based on self-reporting. No in-house testing data to report.

Valdosta State University

Updated weekly, provides case data for employees and students. Does perform in-house testing through their student health services clinic but does not provide those data.

Wesleyan College

Produces recent and cumulative data, dividing cases between students and faculty/staff. Data are updated with every newly reported case. Does not provide data on testing.

Young Harris College

Does not provide case data but the latest news updates from their Coronavirus Resource page (linked above) indicate a spike in symptoms and cases that required them to halt their transition to phase 2.
