Data kerfuffle in Georgia
This week’s case totals for Georgia seem really out of whack and the reason is because there was a large data dump for a large laboratory that served much of the Atlanta metro.
As a result, the weekly case total is much higher than previous weeks, especially for PCR cases.
However, even if we subtract out the 9600 surplus or historic cases, then we still see an increase this week of 1705 cases for the state. Is that 1705 more of the backlog? We didn’t get a follow up press release. At this point we are just supposed to take the Department of Public Health’s word for it that everything is fine. It is really frustrating that we are more than two years into the pandemic and a large laboratory is still having data transmission problems to result in this large scale reporting error.
